Sigh, just went to town to buy a new netbook and realised how small they are? Jesus. Far too small imo.

Anyway thought I'd post here as I have no idea re: Laptops so any help will be good.

I'm a freelance journalist so travel alot using my laptop, have two other laptops that I use for other things including poker/music etc. I want a new laptop that is;

1) Smallish/neat, basically relatively easy to take on a train
2) My needs on the laptop will literally just be writing, light browsing, poker, 2/3 tables max though, so no need so anything huge that way.

It'll be my third laptop so willing to pay around £400

Anyone? Smiley

Yes.

I just bought one that fits that bill exactly.  I'll dig out the link.

http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_Timeline_3810T_Windows_7_Laptop_LX.PCR02.021/version.asp

£499, but with a £100 off that with their current offer.

A bloody good computer for on the move, but powerful enough to run Photoshop and other apps like that with no fuss.  Like a netbook, but far better (for my purposes anyway).  Will suit you perfectly I reckon.

Battery lasts about 4-5 hours with the wi-fi on.

Add £80 to get Windows 7 - but it seems similar spec to the one above I think, without comparing them in detail.

I have a cracked copy of 7 ultimate already.

Was mainly looking at the processor...

Looks like there are pros and cons with each of those two in direct comparison.  Depends what you want to use it for.  Small things like the lack of a webcam would put me off as I use mine for Skype when I'm away, but that might not be a concern for you.  The one you highlighted has a dedicated graphics card - which will give better performance in that area.  But the battery life looks a lot less than the one I got.

Looking for something that will run 20 tables + HEM + TN. Also, has to be able to play Sims 3. Will be plugged in most of the time.

I'd go for a much bigger screen then, but that's up to you as to what you prefer.
