Breaking News

SkyNews (c) Sky News 2011

Hundreds of birdwatchers flocked to a private house and paid a £5 entry fee after the word spread on the internet that a rare Oriental Turtle Dove had been spotted in the garden.

Hundreds Of Twitchers Queue To Spot Rare Bird

Up to 500 people queued outside as Steve Akers' house in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, so they could see stand in his kitchen with a view out to the garden.

The rare bird has only twice before been spotted in the UK and is normally found in south-east Asia, Russia, Japan and the Indian sub-continent.

An avid ornithologist, Mr Akers, 56, first saw the unusual dove through his kitchen window while eating breakfast with his family.

He called the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and they confirmed the creature was a Strettopelia orientalis.

Realising it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the bird, Mr Akers decided to open up his home to other enthusiasts and has pledged the entry fee to the RSPB and a second bird charity BirdlifeMalta.

Confused by the sudden change in magnet poles caused by the approaching Solar Flare, the bird is said to be 3000 miles off course

the chances of a good looking bird in Chipping Norton have always been slim,

but this bird looks like a pidgeon with a racing blue paint job

searches for an empty blue aerosol continue
