I had a program called security shield pop up telling me I hav trojans/worms etc on my puter. I never installed it and it's in my system tray although I cannot right click on it. I also don't seem to be able to remove it from add/remove programs. Also tried system restore which doesnt seem to want to get rid of it either. Not sure what to do. Screen shot attached. HELP!

urgh, dont click on it.  The anti virus is the virus.  Its a fake to make u think u have a virus and use that to get rid of them, but it only infects ur machine further

open up ur taskbar and end task on anything that looks like its connected.

Open ur startup programs in msconfig.  It should be listed in there so that itll restart when you restart your machine.  Untick it (google anything in there that ur not sure what it is)

Go to download.com get malware bytes anti malware and run it

I "think" this is a good guide for removing it

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-my-security-shield

Instructions are halfway down the page

Hi George.

We get this a bit with some of our customers and in my experience, although you may be able to disable the offending software, normally once it's that far down the line where it has disabled taskmgr etc, the only real way to get your system right is to backup your data and reinstall windows from scratch. I know that sounds a bit extreme but once they've worked their way into the OS, you will save more time and hassle reinstalling windows that actually trying to remove it.

BTW, it was nice meeting you and Shelly the other weekend.

Hope you get it sorted!

Paul.
