I'd like to have a bike now, I think it's something to do with getting older. I thought about getting a scooter but that's not quite as cool
Millions of bikers are ok, don't let 2 star people put you off, just be careful.

please do go to thailand mate - ive heard certain parts are really dangerous and that the police are corrupt and will def throw greeks in jail without trial!
I appreciate the dangers, and I am not buying a bike to go tearing around like a young-un. I made a decision when Dad died that if I really wanted to do things then I should follow my heart and do them. This is something I have thought long and hard about and it really is one of my few regrets of things I didnt do in my twenties (its a very short list).
Yes they can be dangerous, but so can lots of things in life.

As long as it's in good repair, the bike is fine...it's the person on it who can fck things up. Pay attention to the cars around you (because they're crap at paying attention to bikers) and you'll be grand.

My ex is a keen biker. I was seriously considering doing it myself almost 10 years back, but then got pregnant and it all went on the backburner. It's something I still think I'd like to do at some point.
He's done a fair few advanced riding courses etc and I couldn't recommend them enough for the reasons Dawn said. Happy to pick his brain for you or put you in touch when the time comes if you want.

I disagree with GreekStein. Go ahead and buy a bike. They're perfectly safe.
As long as you can take bends at speed when you hit some mud.
As long as you can dodge women pulling out in front of you at junctions without looking.
As long as you can read the minds of those who change lanes without indicating.
Besides, nothing in life is risk free. You can get cancer from carrots if you eat enough of them!

Am seriously considering getting one myself, actually.
I had several as a youngster, & when I retired, I almost got one then.
The idea of touring the byways of Wales, & the West of Scotland, on a big 'bike, really appeals. The idea of all that bloody clobber you need to wear & cart around not so much.....

The West of Scotland is gorgeous, big half-empty winding countryside roads everywhere. On a sunny summer Sunday the normally-deserted backroad beside me lights up with that persistent bike-whine. But it rains here more often than not, that would put me right off before anything else.

I have just got shut of my superbike. It was an easy decision as it almost killed me getting into my leathers. There is nothing like riding a bike and I really enjoyed riding down to Dtd from scunny following the back roads along the Trent bank. Go ahead and enjoy yourself IMO. My best mate from school died coming off his bike but that never put any of his mates from riding. Just be careful and if it's a need for speed you require then do some track days.
