i think he's alot more likely to go broke with  88-1010 on small/dry flops than he is to 5b jam them. if we do 4bet, then I prefer a min 4bet (i wrote a huge 2000 word+ post about this) to keep in his ENTIRE range as he's sometimes 3b/folding random aces because he "knows he has to the best hand" when he 3bets but can#t find the trigger to 5b..

I’ve never played with Padraig before but know he has a decent pedigree. He’s got a late night poker title as well as a UKIPT win (MBN Not to min cash). I’ve also heard tales about his drinking and listened to him commentate with Jesse May which on one hand can be very funny but on the other not much in depth analysis.

Technically Padraig is old school. 3*ing, big re raises, often all in. My plan to take control of the table was soon extinguished. He’s unpredictable because he’s dangerous. Also to the left of Padraig was a player with a 15-20 bb stack and he shipped on me twice in a row so I decided to nit it up for a while. I was having a great laugh with Padraig- really nice guy and a pleasure to play with, we had some banter going back and forth but we more or less stayed out of each other’s way.

I didn’t get two involved apart from one pot where I 3 bet a habitual raiser with A4hh and double barrelled a Q83J board to get him to fold. Phew! I then tried to exploit the last level of the day but no one was having any of it. I fell from a peak of 230k and finished the day on 198k. I believe people were finding hands rather than playing back at me which was kinda annoying because on another day I’d easily have made it to 300k no sweat.

Still I’d navigated my way from 550 to 77 players. The aveage stack was 70k and we were coming back to 2k/4k so I had 50 bigs. Dan had unfortunately bust earlier after getting it in AA vs A10dd. Kev was also out after squeezing 22 bigs out of the sb when the bb was sat out to a lp raiser and a caller with A6hh and was called by KQ. The AAJ board looked good. I don’t really need to tell you the rest.

Out of 11, just two of us had made it which was a little disappointing but not unexpected. I once again had managed to build a stack but understand the nature of tourneys- you need some luck on your side. I just need the rub of the green when in the money! I spose it will happen.... soon!

There’s a pub across from the Skylon hotel where we’re staying called the ivy house and we go there for a couple of drinks. After planking on a post box, we go to possibly the finest eatery in Dublin, if not the world- Abrakebabra. They do awesome kebabs and the best cheesy chips with Bacon and it only costs 12 Euro! Wow! Glad I don’t live in Dublin. Jeez

Saturday was spent in town playing some pool. I played like a tard. Used to play for a pool team but am pretty useless nowadays. A burger king and we head back to the hotel. Shelley has a headache (after 10 years same excuses) so heads to bed. I decide I'm going to grind some online before the 8pm 100 Euro side. I go down into the bar but notice there's a few of us with a table full of notes playing 3 card brag...........

Just read this from page 1 for the first time.

Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to other posts from this years tournament.

(p.s. Chase the Ace is a deeecent game! Not sure if anyone else plays this but: using any K as a "boom", (where it can't be swapped with) is really fun, allows for slowrolls, when the gimp with the Ace on the right of you tries to grab your card. "BOOOOOM!!!")

Its a simple 1 card game but also the one that starts the most arguments, incred fun.

Cliffs on brag because I have yet again lost momentum with another report. I won 180 Euro after making 4 straights and a flush. However this is the first time I have played brag and it was getting silly with a couple of the balla’s going 50 Euro Blind and getting into a 2k pot with Ace high. No ty.

We all play the side event which is quite crapshooty but a decent pot. I lose with AK vs QQ aipf after the AAT flop. No probs. Let’s save the run good for tomorrow anyway. Kev does a typical blow up after losing a hand with K9 vs 66 on a 923 board. Decide to have an earlyish night and sleep quite well. Get up with plenty of time for day 2 and unbag my chips. Obv recognise anyone apart from a player called Mehtab from Sheffield who has be outchipped. Mehtab seems decent but can get very “creative” at times. In fact he 3 bets a 17 bb stack and then tanks for 9 mins before calling the shove with Q9cc. Villian obv has QQ but a 993 flop puts him to the sword. I myself have a very good start when I open 88 utg and get called by and oldish chap in the SB. Flop is K84 and he decides stop and go is the way to sort of these aggro kidz (not that I’m a kid but I wear a hoodie innit). I sigh call and somehow hold against AQ.

Table breaks straight after and I now have around 300k. I draw my card. Table 8 seat 5! Not superstious as such but my birthday is 5/8 so 85 has officially been my lucky hand. Even though I don’t have a lucky hand. Let’s face it, it’s pretty gay. Seat 5 has been good to me too. Scooped Notts Gala tour in that seat. Ship it! I sit down and am on a pretty stacked table. Andy Black is two to my right and a decent Irish player I played in Edinburgh is chipped up to my left. I recognise one other Irish player on the table who I have never played before. He turns out to be an abso nit and much fun and games are had. I open QJ first hand I play. Nit jams on me for 12 bigs. I don’t know he’s a nit at this stage and normally would snap him off but will sometimes make these folds early at a new table. He shows tens and I’m a bit annoyed at myself for folding. Oh well. Don’t be results orientated.

Andy is chipped up and opening a lot of hands. We’re both around 100 bigs deep when he opens and I flat AK. Flop is K high and I call a c bet. He bets turn I again just call and bet ¾ pot on river to win a decent pot against him. “Ahhh you could have the lot if you’d reraised” he says claiming Queens. Didn’t really want to get 100 bigs in against this field with AK. The way the table was flowing me and Andy were bound to get into a big pot. He lost a hand with TT vs 99 on an 8 high board when the table luckbox (more on him later) turned a 9. TBF I’ve seen the guy before and he seems like a decent player. He just kept getting it in behind and binking. Spose I’m just jealous. I mean I manage the part about getting it in bad....

Anyway Andy has about 140k at 2k/4k and I am up to around 350k when he opens hi jack to 11k. I look down at AJ and 3 bet to 27k looking to snap a shove. Maybe could have called in position but just felt like he was ready to go off and he’s only around 30 bigs deep. The BB (tight Irish player) tanks for about 3 mins and folds 99 with about 150k behind. Andy snap jams. I call. He has 77 and manages to fade a KQx board. Would have been sweet to win that flip on this table without Andy but that’s what happens on the Bedi Rollercoaster. It was about to get even steeper....
