Tried the shoe thing once years ago.  My Cuban heel was too thick and soft for it to work, and I nearly ended up knocking down the wall rather than opening the bottle.

I think you need thin-soled shoes, enough to stop the bottle breaking on impact, but thin enough to let the shock of the impact travel through the bottle.  That French bloke in the video has done it a few times before obviously.

I had this problem last week and found a very simple solution on the google that worked well.

Screw a screw into the cork. Remove with claw hammer.
