Following on from the lovely KK awkward spot we've found an even juicier one....

Prelude...Tables shown moderate aggression with occasional 3 bets and some juicy pots considering we're playing 50/1. About halfway into the session.

Stack sizes Hero (£230+)
Villain (£300+)

Hero finds   in the SB
Villain (who's UTG) makes it 5.
Folds all the way round to Hero.... 3 bets to 13.
Villain reaches for chips and makes it 36.

The villain is a good thinking player and have had marginal hand history against him before, however with the added 3 bets pre, he could be doing this with a wider range to normal.

Hero 5 bets to 100.... Personally im unsure of my 5 bet size here and whether i should have min 5 bet. Thoughts...

Villain 6 bet shoves
Hero Calls.

Hero??

bigger 3b, debatable whether to even 3bet, but its probably never going to be terrible. Probably just flat the 4bet.

Good price to set mine? Smiley

When we 3bet an utg open and flat the 4ball, what range are we assigning a thinking player and where do we think he's capping our range?

don't like your sizing at all mate.

3b is ok, but prefer 15-17, cos when u make it 13, 230bbs deep he's not gonna fold very often, and we want folds sometimes ofc, so u need to make it the same with yr premiums obv.

the 5b size is terrible im afraid, cos you've put in half yr stack so you're never folding so leaves villain no room to bluff - he's just folding all his value hands and shoving all his premiums.

You have two options when he 4bets - 1) 5b to 70 and call it off OR 2) flat and play the pot in position.

Merits to both of course, depends on villain and whether you think he'll 6b pull the trigger often (unlikely) or is he getting it in light 99/TT/JJ or AQ?

Vs almost everybody at 50/1 I think flatting is best.

yh way bigger 3bet needed preflop and a slightly smaller 5bet.

I think not 3betting would have been something to consider, although i think I would almost certainly 3bet.

Personally I don't think you should be getting this in PF 230bb's so flatting the 4bet is defo the best play imo

Villain is not that stupid and knows you don't 3bet that much light, especially from the blinds. Also you've got to ask yourself how often you've seen him 4 bet and do you really think he's doing it "light" because he always has a pretty nutted range here vs you imo. Flat the 4 bet here and take it post flop.

Do the live fish thing and call it off on the 9 high board and explain how you put him on AK when he shows you KK/AA.

Also people don't really 3bet and 4bet light in 50/1 games, never mind 5betting and 6betting so expect them to show up with AA and KK almost all the time. If you are at a table which they are doing otherwise then they are probably pretty good players and need some better table selection!
