my lappy is struggling now, and we might have to dip into the savings for a new one.

Im not arsed about gaming so graphics card i'm not arsed about. we use the lappy for easy things like word processing, poker, web surfing, watching blu rays, skyping, possibly running some poker tracking DB.

Reason for the thread is i'm not up to speed with the following:

-Windows 7/windows 8? which should i be going for as I have read that 8 is more geared to touch screen, but a lot of people hate it as its a lot different to previous OS
- what are these touchscreen lappys like? worth it or ?
-say on a 4-500 budget, what would your shortlist be? links preferable

theres just so much choice now and ive only owned 1-2 makes.

Well if you're watching blu rays the first thing you need is a 1080p screen.

With that comes a decent graphics card and that leads to a decent processor and chunk of memory.

Windows 8 pretty wank imo. Love windows 7. They finally get it right then go and fuck it up within a year!!

Good luck getting a 1080p screen laptop for 4 to 500. I paid £830 but that was from PC world so obv a bit over the odds.

Tbf Blu ray isn't the deciding factor, it's more of a nice to have. So can do without if if means saving 300 quid!

I got a Samsung 5 and can tell you that it's pretty awesome. It's the core i7 one though which I can't see on dabs. The one they have for £550 is a core i5 without full HD but as you said for £300 do you really need it?

The first one I got had a faulty pad thingy which tainted my first dealings with Windows 8 somewhat.

Now that I've got one that actually works I'm getting used to Windows 8 to the point that I think I'll end up liking it as much as 7.

This laptop's not as high spec'd as my PC but it seems loads quicker. Maybe it's because it's new and not cluttered with porn yet or maybe it's the OS that makes the difference.

Either way it's lightning fast at everything you mentioned you want so I'd highly recommend.

Agree with subZERO that it looks pretty sexy albeit a bit large due to the 17" screen. If you want it to be portable I'd go for something smaller tbh.

That's the one I got and it's pretty shit hot. £80 less than I paid as well so happy days.

I'd get one with a SSD, makes a big difference imo.

Evil pie 800 quid is a bit much but the 500 quid version looks good. Screens massive tho!

Kinboshi, does it make things run faster or?

Big screen's good if you're watching films on it surely?

I want one of these. Hard drive on the Samsung leaves a lot to be desired even though it's pretty big.

Apparently it's easy to fit an SSD so I might have to get it sorted.
