Click on the following link:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/aug/16/the-fiver-premier-league-starts

Scroll down the page to "Fiver Letters"

Find the following paragraph

"As an avid reader of the Fiver, I thought you might like to read this letter, which I have penned in an attempt to: a) get signed by spend-thrift Manchester City; and b) make some dough in the process. What do you think my prospects are?" – Iain Naylor"

Have a read and enjoy.  This is a friend of mine and is a trainee solicitor at the same firm as me.  He genuinely sent this letter to Manchester City and it was published in The Guardian on Friday. Made me laugh immensely.

Like how he got the cc in at the bottom!

Reminds me of when I was 8 or 9 and I wrote to Man Utd asking for a trial. Ron Atkinson was then the manager. I seem to remember a line in there that said I played for Thornton-Cleveleys U9's and how we had never won a game, with our worst defeat being 33 - 0.  But that wasn't my fault as I was a sub...

Dunno why I wasn't snapped up.

Still I did get a really nice letter back from Mick Brown the assistant manager - along with a really cool poster and some other bits and bobs.

Did they really?  That is so cool.

Somehow I can't imagine the big clubs these days doing the same thing.  That may, of course, be a massive and irrational generalisation!
