unless i'm missing something it's just a slightly better version of greenscreen isnt it?
the kids can only see what they are supposed to be petting by looking at a projection on a screen, from observing their reactions and the prompting from their paient it doesnt look like they are actually seeing the animals in front of them
high quality animation, as you'd expect these days, but not quite a "hologram" ala red dwarf's Arnold Rimmer
