Sup guys,

Contract recently expired on my iphone 4 S with EE, looking at getting a 5 S and been shopping around for various tariffs.

The EE loyalty team phoned me up and their best offer was a 5 S with unlimited texts/minutes and 4gb of data for £28.49pm plus a handset price of £89.99.

After a bit of browsing i came across this deal (EE, 1000mins, unlimited texts, 2gb data, free phone). It seems fantastic, but given how drastically different it is to what the company themselves offered me i'm worried it's too good to be true. When i asked EE they didn't have this deal on their system which rung a few alarm bells.

Anyone give me a heads up/pointer on this at all?

A phone deal comes in 2 parts, the cost of the calls and the cost of the phone.

Check the price of a sim only deal, then with the phone included as well, see how much the are ripping you off for the phone. (You can buy the phone contract free from Apple.

Do you need unlimited mins and 4gb of data?

I got an iphone 6 recently, £30.50pm for 600 mins, unlimited texts and 1gb data (4g).  It's £150 for the phone but I had a discount code to get £150 off.  Plus I've gone via Quidco and may (or may not) get £60 cashback

nah you can buy a new iphone s5 for about £300 on amazon or somewhere else

then walk into 3 or vodaphone or where ever and ask for a sim only contract

should get unlimited minutes and text for about £15

money saved all round

when my contract runs out in next month or so i will be keeping same phone and moving to a sim only contract saving £400 a year

You're not really saving £400 per year though are you. Your minutes, texts and data are probably costing you about the same as before.

You're paying £400 per year less but that's because you're not buying a new phone.

It's like saying that by sticking with your Ford Focus and not buying a Lamborgini you've saved yourself £200k

Really appreciate the help guys.

If i use the link i found in the OP i'd pay £563.76 over 24 months.

If i did it separately and bought a £300 iphone plus an EE combi Sim (£12.99) i'd pay £611.76 over 24 months. Both with very similar usage deals.

I'm really curious as to why there is a disparity there, and even bigger when you compare it to other deals on the market. Am i missing something? Is it safe/reliable to go through a site like mobiles.co.uk?

Mobiles.co.uk are owned by Dixons Carphone, pretty big company - certainly nothing wrong with them.

Well, there was nothing wrong with Phones4U or Dialaphone either but you get my drift. Try not to get a contract that pays cash-back by redemption......
