What a sensational night with a landslide for the SNP with Labour totally decimated in Scotland.

Before devolution the only way the SNP could have achieved independence would be through getting MP's elected to Westminster: but, overall, it was only a marginal party and never seemed realistic or possible.

Fast-forward to the 90's and the onset of devolution. The Tories were vehemently against it citing it would be a stepping stone to Independence.

Labour in their wisdom wanted it set up a system that would never allow the SNP to have an overall majority in the indy parliament.

Their success in achieving that majority at the last Scottish election was a truly phenomenal feat, leading to the Indy referendum.

Despite the "no" vote carrying in the referendum the SNP has just went from strength to strength and the landslide SNP victory tonight just goes to show how out of touch Scottish Labour was with the electorate.

Years ago Scottish independence would have been almost unthinkable, in the near future it is a very realistic possibility.

Whatever way tonight has been a truly historic night for Scottish and UK politics and will be really interesting to see consequences of this momentous night.

despite winning 58 or 59 seats its forecast the snp will have less than 50% of the public vote in scotland

without the support of 50.1% of the scottish public we wont get our own country

I find it quite funny that a thread celebrating the SNP decided to say YES to indepdence from the main general election thread. Smiley
