how the hell was that allowed to be broadcast? I watched it mute with subtitles after the first 10 words from his mouth.

very surprised at Danny Baker - who i assume had a lot of editorial control given he wrote the series and it's based on his book/life - for allowing that as a 'South London' accent.

As the native speaker of an accent that is very often absolutely brutalised by impersonations/impressions I'm used to hearing shit accents. But that was something else.

I'm perfectly sure Baker knows the accent is all over the place, but they're good mates and Kay is the big name that gets something like this made and given a big marketing push.
