BTW - Do any of you have any cool ex army stuff?

I have this spade, an ammunition box, a tarp, a cooking stove and a bivvy bag. (bivvy courtesy of Georgia the Sarge.

Talking of which, does anyone know if he is OK? Not Posted since mid July, though he does seem to log on frequently. Hope he is OK.

Not heard from horseplayer for a while either - I'll drop him a note today, to see if all is well.

Ahhh, the old entrenching tool.............................what a piece of crap.

Introduced as part of the new Personal Load Carrying Equipment (PLCE) in the late eighties  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_Load_Carrying_Equipment

If memory serves, our Regiment was one of the first to trial it. Can you imgine trying to dig a complete trench using that. The PLCE itself obviously was a huge step up from the
58 Pattern webbing previously used (by me from 1978 to late 80's) Then the Bivvi was a waterproof poncho which doubled as both your waterproof protection and the Bivvi, it was like wearing a crisp packet.

With the introduction of PLCE came the DPM waterproof groundsheet which became our Bivvi and is what Jack and I used during our Coast to Coast adventure and pics of which I posted on that thread. Also introduced was Goretex waterproof suits (Also seen in some of those pics.) These were a godsend, however most soldiers had already by then purchased there own civi equivalents.

All I retain from my Army days are a couple of the Goundsheets, a Goretex waterproof jacket and another couple of Bivvy Bags. I have a spare of each and I remember a wee while back you mentioned your Bivvi bag was showing signs of wear. PM me your address and I'll send them down.

Appreciate the concern regards my well being but I'm all good. Browse the forum daily, however normally after I get in from work. As you can imagine there have been a few threads created over the past wee while that I would have loved to taken part in, however by the time I get home they've turned into slagging matches and I just ain't got the wherewithall to get involved. Obviously I've mellowed over the years.

Geo. Glad to hear that you're well.

That coast to coast thread is definitely worth another read if I can find it. (Or you could post a link so that newbies can enjoy it too)

Do you ever hear from Jack and Dawn these days? I've often wondered how they're doing.

I would be very grateful for those items and more than happy to  pay any costs. I'll PM you my addy.

Jack and Dawn seem well settled in the US, I have them on facebook and as you would imagine, Dawn posts regular updates. So pleased for the big guy that he hit the ground running and got a job fairly quickly as he is a real gem.

I'll get the stuff off to you at the weekend.

Blimey! I have to cut back on the entertainment.

I'm currently playing poker, watching 'Nothing to Declare' on TY, reading Geo's thread and listening to Sherlock Holmes on YouTube.

I've just went through the thread again and caan feel the itchy feet coming on. I still do quite a bit of walking mostly around the Pentlands and often with the grandkids. Whilst the last couple of years at work have been pretty hectic things are settling down and I'm actually contemplating going sort of semi retired at the beginning of next year when I turn 55,

Had a couple of trips walking this year, Arran in February which was great but brutally cold at that time of year, Easter weekend up Ben Lomond and May Bank Holiday in he Trossachs with my youngest son.

Looking to go to Cornwall next year during the Easter holiday with the family as it's an area of this great country of ours I've always wanted to visit. May look at revisiting the walk to cover the bits I missed due to illness/injury and I would love to revisit the Lion Inn again,

Do you, Rod and Boo still have plans for the bike trip?

I'm definitely doing the bike trip Geo. I intended to go this summer but some personal stuff got in the way.

I've done quite a few ~ 200 mile test rides and I've been working on getting my kit together and experimenting with ways of packing it. My brother John has adapted a wheeled holdall so that it rides on his pillion. It's a great idea because if you don't fancy leaving your stuff on the bike in a dodgy area it's easy to unmount and take with you.

I think Boo's circumstances might have changed forcing him to give up on the idea, and I haven't heard from Rod lately.

That coast to coast walk really was great Geo. I bet you're glad you documented it so well now.

BTW- Does your tarp have an eyelet or an anchor point in the center? On this pic it looks like it does.

It's quite a long road from Android to tents.

That's why Android geeks are so touchy. They're to tents.

Imagine what I thought when I saw a whole page of new replies.

Never  disappointing to hear from the sarge though.

John and I had a ride out to test his removable, wheelable luggage idea. I must say it works really well so I'm going to do something similar.

I just have to think of a way to make mine better than his.
