The Jersey Combination League will no longer make public any big defeats for under-14s and younger age groups in case the losing players become demoralised.

League bosses have also asked coaches to try to stop their players scoring too many times in one-sided matches.

sensible? unrealistic?

Absolutely pathetic.

Regardless of whether you think it's demoralising etc...the result still happened. Not publishing it to the 6 people who might read it is nonsense.

They're going to stop publishing league tables as well? Can't have the goal difference swing -21 in a week or so.

So the kids grow up without experiencing life's bumps & bruises. Tough life ahead for them.

Prime example of whats wrong with this country.  What about the boys who played really well and scored lots of goals.  Do they not have the  right to be proud of their performance and achievements ?  Surely we should be encouraging the winning team to push on and get even better and encourage people to excel. Why do we need to keep focusing on offending peoples feelings. Most people are aware of their capabilities and are prepared to participate regardless. If its the taking part that counts it shouldn't matter whether you win lose or draw anyway, totally unfair to target people or teams for being good at something.  No wonder we are getting left behind other countries in terms of sporting successs.  Its ridiculous that do gooders keep interfering in things that don't need it.

That's a bit silly - instead have a mercy rule. Once a team gets, say, six goals ahead then the game is over. If there's still time to kill, swap players about to make a game of it so everyone gets to experience a balanced game.

Ugh...  that's wetter than freshly washed lettuce... no way kids are going to swap teams... huge parts of it is to do with taking part and team spirit and being in it together... Lets stop babying kids to the nth degree.... part of the joy of success is to have experienced the other end of the spectrum.. you cant just pat them on the head when the going gets tough and say never mind I'll even it up for you... these are life lessons.. they are going to encounter adversity as they go through life, they are going to face days when they will be demoralised and feel like chucking it in.. but there wont be anyone there to rufflle  their hair and make it a bit fairer and easier for them..

That's why we have a generation of FB posting sympathy vampires crying and whining every five minutes because there lives aren't perfect.. life is tough and instilling mechanisms to combat this is important otherwise you are leaving them mentally defenseless
