So manty students couldn't work this out, that in Scotland they had to lower the pass mark for higher maths

Without watching the video or Mr Mulhuzz's solution, is this essentially a stationary point question?

My A' level maths seems such a long time ago looking at this. Work out the max and min and then differentiate, right?
