In the new year i'm going to be getting a desktop computer, was just looking for some recommendations.

It's main purpose is going to be for poker. I was in curries last week, and they had some decent (looking) hp computers for about 650/ 700. Apple comps were 1k plus.

Both had the hard drive built in to the screen, so no hard drive box.

I've only ever used a laptop in the last 10 years, so computers have come a long way!

Any ideas for a desktop comp for playing poker would be greatly appreciated.

When you say play poker is that one or two tabling on one site for fun, or 12 tabling across 4 sites with HEM and a HUD running?

I play about 8 tables max on laptop, with slight overlap.

Looking for something that can handle up to 10 tables with no overlap.

I don't use a hud, and most volume is on sites where Huds are not allowed.

You really don't need high specification then. I haven't looked for a while but I can't imagine you would need to spend more than about £400. Take the extra and invest in a big monitor!

While you may not need anything that high spec. What you will find (as I did 3 years ago) when you go for the cheaper option 3-4 years down the line what you have is hopelessly outdated very quickly.

Plus while you may start off not needing much in the way of spec what you may find later is that if you want to play games (other than poker) or anything more than basic office work or even stream high quality movies it doesn't do what you need.

Not saying you have to go high end, but I made the mistake of going budget in 2012 when I bought a new pc and then hem2/pt4 came out and I could not even run a poker hud properly. Spent a few hundred quid on top upgrading in 2014 and got to late 2015 and found my processor was just sheet and everything (even basic stuff ) required more power.

So I have ended up forking put quite a bit last month to allow to do what I want and also future proof a little

As long as it has at least an Intel i5 processor and 8mb of RAM you'll be ok. I would recommend one with an SSD as it is a possibility you will start using a HUD at some point down the line. Have a nose around in the clearance section of big department stores for a bargain.

Have you thought about more than 1 screen so your desktop or playing area is spread over two screens ( see my 2 below)..pretty easy with a standard graphics card..couple nice 22" screens.. my company supplies all equipment etc

for example Lenovo ( IBM ) i3 8gb ram 500GB drive dual monitor grahics card 2 X 22" LG screens would be about £540... different specs available as well....

Just make sure it either has an SSD drive or you install one yourself

Probably a bit overkill for what I need but will be using it for work as well.
