any of you technologically advanced bunch know anything about port forwarding on a router?

i have found a few guides via google and on the manufacturer of the router (its not mine its actually 2 floors down :S ) but my downloads are sloooooww and i would love an idiotws guide to doing this, anyone any experience?

Certain clients like to have certain ports forwarded, so you need to check which ones you require first.

Then it's a simple case of telling your client which ones you are using, then setting the same ones in the port forwarding section of your router to the same.

cheers Ginger seems ok now, just need to find the optimum place to position the router (i'm on 2nd floor. routers on ground floor any ideas?)

It may sound rather simplistic and obvious, but for the best coverage you want the router as close to the center of the "network" as possible. So, if you have a pc's on the ground and 2nd floor, see if it's possible to locate it on the 1st floor, sometimes just relocating it on the floor that it currently on will be enough.

For that small of an area,you shouldn't need any extra equipment, most, if not all work at 100m easily.

yeah i'm hoping to convince the guy that owns the router to slap it on the landing, even bought a extension cord for it as i'm connecting at low at th moment and i wanna go faster lol

why dont you offer to pay the guy a fiver a month towards his connection costs? this may encourage him to move the router
