The argument you suggest re Irons & drivers is not relevant - a Driver IS for length, & is always gonna be longer than any Iron.
i think this arguement is relevent tikay, it shows up and down the country people are buying £300 drivers because they know they will help there game imeasurably, and this has meant playing a 2,3,4 1rons a rare thing, more so than the new balls, most players are attracted too the new balls for accuracy rather than distance imo..

Every golfer should care. You don't need to be playing with Pro V1's or anything but consistancy in golf ball will help you get a better feel of what sort of reaction you will get when you hit the ball.
I only play with cheap balls (excuse the expression!) - Nike something or other or those Titleist ones in the yellow pack (NTX?) but I stick to these two types and will use the same type of ball throughout a round should I lose one.

I was at the driving range when he said the club was "broke"
Yet i managed with the first time strike of the afternoon to send the ball home... and home was 300yards away just over a bridge!
I did however manage to lose our wrong arm throwing challenge! I have a very girlie, yet perfectly technique'd left handed throw.

It's all in your mind Rooky.
Any decent Driver will do the job, it's the player that has the timing, & thats what matters. Mind you, I play golf worsed than I pasy poker, so prob best to ignore me.
I agree with tikay to a certain extent but like pool/snooker etc using better equiptment can only improve your game.
Can't beat tikay at poker, maybe i should try at golf. I am on a par at both tho very very erratic!

unfortunately its all not in the mind tikay, average golfers are now driving 280+ now, sales in irons have plummeted, while driver sales and wedge sales are up
OK, not ALL in the mind, but mostly so imo.
The argument you suggest re Irons & drivers is not relevant - a Driver IS for length, & is always gonna be longer than any Iron.
But these days they sell "Premium" balls - go further, spin better, bounce softer. It's all nonsense. Clubs ditto. A sesson with the Pro is cheaper & more likely to give you extra length or accuracy. IMO.......
it's very subjective Tikay, but I am very fussy about which golf balls I use as I am sure is Junior.
But it is possibly only 10% of all golfers who care this much.
I kinda disagree & agree here Karabiner. Only 10% of golfers are good enough to take advantage of all the suoper gizmos & sexed-up golf balls. Giving me Pro V1 or any decent ball that spins more, bites better, or whatever, is a waste of time, I rarely hit a green, I sorts trundle on most greens eventually. But to golfers of yourself & Junior's ability, yes, it does make a difference.
I take 4 packs of 3 balls out for each round, & have been known to pop into the pro-shop after the front 9 to stock up.
And BradleyStrider & I are at cross purposes here. Of COURSE drivers are longer & better than Irons, particulaly in "regular" guys hands, that was not my point. My point was that each year, Callaway & Titleist & Ping & whoever all bring out their new "go further" range, for top dollar. The truth is, 99% of golfers could hit longer & more accurately if they improved their technique, & spending hundreds of pounds on a super sexy driver aint necessarily the answer.
As for At-It Bradley, well, give me a shot a hole, & I'll have the bugger.
Golf has never been discussed on blonde before, but it looks like a hot topic.
Please address me as Mr Past Captain in all golf matters. You'll be up before the Committee if not........

Ahem, I too am a past captain but do not insist on being addressed as such.
And before Kev gets in, we are both past many things

Nope, lets have this right, In golf matters, you will be addressed as Mr Past Captain now Karabiner. In non-golf matters, it will be The Saga Kid.
I have to tell you guys that Karabiner played the Main Event at Walsall, he does not get the chance to play many of these, & was grinding away, Karabiner style, having a ball, enjoying the table company which included Bad Girl, Racing Ronnie, etc etc.
Anyway, Karabiner was card dead all night, then The Boy Thewy arrived & started dancing, just as Karabiner found QQ. Thewy raises with a bag of spanners, Karabiner moves all-in for 4 times more, Thewy beats him into the pot with the Monster K-9. First card , KING. But Karabiner WANTED a caller, & musta been delighted to see Thewy's hand. Karabiner & Thewy are great mates, & it sickens me when I see, as I did on another thread tonight, all that "same village" nonsense. Thewy & I are always at each others throats in every comp we play, we musta busted each other with junk more times than anyone else combined. And we have each busted each other on the bubble many times. THATS the way to play poker. Honestly.

When I played golf, I DID have preference for Golf balls for individual holes.
By this I mean, I liked the Wilson Staff Titanium distance for long par 5's (which were reachable in 2)
I liked using an ultra spin ball for holes with small greens, or where I had to "bend" the ball.
Saying that, I was down to a 10 handicap - but in all honesty, I cannot say that the "type" of ball did me any good whatsoever, but hey, its a mind thing.
(PS I only used white wooden tees, one day I forgot them and had to borrow some, they were multicoloured - WORST round of golf I ever had!!)

I have an adams redline driver, can't remember the exact model but it goes for miles and has been known to draw the odd gasp from onlookers.
This is the first winter i haven't played golf in years and i'm itching for a round just thinking about it.
I had an idea a while back about incorporating poker into golfing holidays for big groups, i reckon there could be a market for it but i'm way to lazy to do anything about it.
A poker/golf blonde bash style weekend anyone?

I definatly think there is something in a golf challange! Particularly if it ends up with me shutting At-It up about his driving and taking tikays money!
I think the point about the people able to use the equipment is right - maybe part of the reason it took me 12months to get full use out of the R580. apparently only 15% of golfers ever shoot below 90! I'm one, but not as consistantly as I'd like!!
I used 'stinger' tees last year (nice natural wood colour!), and they seemed to really work, I'll have to find some more for this year thou... they break on every shot!

A few of the guys were playing with one of those last year, and I believe the reviews were mixed.
A driver is very subjective, and if you like it I'm sure you'll play well with it.

We are thinking of having a golf/poker day where the points scored in the golf are converted into starting chips for the tournament in the evening.
Will let you all know how this goes.

Blimey - I thought golf was a simple game until I read all this! I'm giving up and sticking to poker - far easier.
Only after the golf / poker day though of course.....

So the higher you score the more chips you start with ?
Could promote some very high scores

I'm hoping I should be able to train myself to play well with it....I'll keep the R580 in the bag too thou! (which seems to have stopped rattling again - the rattle being the reason for the thread!)
