Geoff’s Story

I used to be a professional poker player; well I say that, if the definition of a professional poker player is an unemployed man who plays poker, I was a professional. I had been in business all my life and had a short career as a TV Quiz show contestant. I managed to win £112000 in my TV career and I had my 15 minutes of fame so I thought that I would turn pro as a poker player. It looked easy!
At Xmas last year in that time between Xmas and New Year when your family and extended family and friends are all sitting round getting pissed (I don’t drink) my daughter happened to say the following – “Dad I was sitting round talking with some friends at Uni and we were talking about what our Dads did for a living”. She went on to say that some Dads were solicitors, accountants, Bank Managers etc and they asked my daughter what her Dad did. “I don’t really know she said but I think it has something to do with Clubs, cards and snooker”.
Bear in mind all the Grandparents etc were around and I stupidly said –“Well next time they ask you tell them that your Dad is a professional poker player!”
At this I was showered with Pinot Grigio as my wife spat out her wine and comments including the f*** word. “ A PROFESSIONAL POKER PLAYER “ she said “a f****goldstar Professional Poker Player – go on then tell me honestly how you did last year (2004) and this year (2005)”
“OK I said 2004 was a bad year and I did sixty grand but this year has been much better and I have only done twenty five grand”
“Well then” she said “I suggest that you pack the game in”
I replied condescendingly “I can’t pack the game in –it’s my living!!”

Needless to say I started work in February this year at The Western as the marketing man.

York Rap (you're crap)   .....Kind of got me thinking how we could make up new nicks for people....

Seeing as we have Dave as "El Blondie", how about we rename tikay as "El Derly"

Or how about Ironside as "Novak Ingood"  Cheesy

Welcome Geoff, & thanks.

If we can help in any way with The Western, just drop me a PM. We are hear to tell folks about Poker. You do it, we tell it!

I hope to be down for your Fessie. I actually lived less than a mile from The Western for some 30 tears, in West Acton, & was born the other side of The Western Avenue at Park Royal Hossie. Quite looking forward to looking round my old stomping ground.

Love it.

Echoing Indestructible's (another game show legend) sentiment that I'll see you the morrow if you're in attendance.

That has to be one of the best opening posts I have seen. Very honest and funny, I have to admit I wondered for a split second if it was Red Dog under a different name.

I met Geoff on Sunday and I am a mere beginner compared to this game show legend.
