I really enjoyed reading that. It seems like you're playing 9 or 10 handed, I've never done that cos it seems a bit boring but playing 6 max for the last month or so has noticeably improved my tourney game I think.

I play full games because I think it suits my cash game better....rightly or wrongly I have the perception that playing 6 max I will have to mix it more and frankly thought that I would be diversifying away from something that was working well

Consequently until recently my short handed tourney experience was relatively limited, and a player I respect pointed out my weakness short handed, which I have been working on

Like I said in your PM, I liked the entry.  But I have a question related to it. Well kind of.

In general how many times during a mtt do you risk your whole stack?   This isn't just for Tightend, I would appreciate all views.

I picked up on a few things in your entry which I think will really help me.   

I was checking through my mtt notes that I have taken. In the 19 mtt that I have played, I have only risked my whole stack three times.  In most times when I have cashed, I scrape through into the money but I am in desperate trouble by being really short stacked. I think it would be possible at the low limit mtt that I play to cash consistently by playing tightly. But by playing really tight and boring poker, there is no chance of a win. Only a chance of scraping into one of the last money positions.

you sound like a stage I went through about a year ago, as I said in the article...grind my way to the bubble region and then maybe crawl into a final or win a race to get chips

No one is going to turn you into a manic early stages chip gatherer, and perhaps the style that implicitly accepts an early exit as the prices for taking the risk to get chips to "move and groove" will never REALLY be you, but in time and with experience you will develop a feel for profitable situations to build up your stack without the "nut" type hand you currently wait on to get your chips

Then you will feel you are capable of playing in different styles to vary your game accoring to the table you are playing

And remember, 1st prize is usually 30 times more than 10th, so it's worth going for, even if you only make it once in 20
