I have a gamble with someone  at work every time England play in a test match. The rules are simple we have one team each and set a number of runs for each player. We each then go higher or lower on the others selections for 10p a run for the first innings. For example if he set A. Strauss at 40 and I elected to go higher, he then goes on to score 90 runs I win a fiver (50 x 10p). If he only scored 10 I would lose £3 (30 x 10p).

10p a run doesn't sound much, but the villain took me for over £50 in the first test. I fully admit to being a 'cricket fish' so if anyone with a smidgen of cricket knowledge could select higher or lower for the Eng players below, and set some realistic run figures for the Aussies I would be most grateful. If I take your advice and win I wil happily fund you for a Sunday Sizzler sattelite, or some other token of my appreciation!

Regards

Jon.

Just for fun, I'd go with

England

Andrew Strauss   40 Higher - I think he'll have a better test this time

Alistair Cook   40 - Higher - again, looking forward to a better test

Ian Bell   50 - lower - no offence Ian

Paul Collingwood   35 - Higher, Collingwood is potentially our best batsman imo.

Kevin Pietersen   50 - Higher - Like Collingwood, one of our best batsman

Andrew Flintoff   30 - hmmmm, iffy, If I had to commit for fun, I'd go higher again

Geraint Jones   20 - Lower - failed to deliver in any test this series and there's pressure for him to be dropped for Read.

Sajid Mahmood   15 - Higher - should do better than 15, not much though but I'd go higher and then the loss is limited to £1.50

Matthew Hoggard   10 - HOGGY HOGGY HOGGY - Higher, He can do better too

Steve Harmison   10 - Lower - clutching at straws in the betting now

Monty Panesar   10 - Lower - really clutching

James Anderson   10 - Lower - oops

Jamie Dalrymple   25 - Dunno

Chris Read   35 - Higher, will want to impress

Liam Plunkett   15 - Dont know - go with lower again

Australia

Matthew Hayden - 70

Justin Langer - 70

Ricky Ponting - 100

Michael Hussey - 120

Michael Clarke - 100

Andrew Symonds - 20

Adam Gilchrist - 50

Shane Warne - 25

Brett Lee - 30

Mitchell Johnson - 15

Stuart Clark -  10

Glenn McGrath - 10

tbh, I think there will be a lot of varience on the performances now the Aussies have won the series. They just don't put as much intensity into it once they win a series.

id be tempted to say higher for all the bowlers, simply because u cant lose a great deal but can win a lot

batting wise

strauss is due a ton so id go with him higher
cook, id say lower, dont think he's at that level yet, massive potential and fine hundred at the waca
bell, been pretty consistent but doesnt seem to make the big hundreds so id be tempted to go lower as he aint gonna be a big earner
collingwood, great attitude, fabulous double hundred, tho technically poor outside the off stump early doors, seems to be clarkes rabbit
kp, higher likely to make big hundreds if he gets in, again  id say if
freddie, awkward, not in great nick but my heart says a flintoff hundred at the mcg

thats my two penneth
