I believe the answer is Peter Beardsley.

Although he only played one League Cup game for Man utd.

Yep - Beardo is the right answer.

He used to hang out with Gullit as well:  http://www.socceraddicts.com/Funny%20Pictures/8.jpg

For whom did David Beckham score his first senior goal?

no Googling!

What was odd/unusual about this first senior goal?

actually going to be offline for quite a while but I'll give you the "odd" answer

He scored with his first touch in his first senior game, direct from a corner, but he was on loan somewhere.........

He played for Preston (with David Moyes I believe).  Did he score for them?

What was unusual.... was it in open play?

Preston NE, and it's the only goal he's ever scored using his head.
