which do you prefer ? im asking because after going to a casino for the 1st time in nov and then another 15times or so inc a couple of trips to dtd i seem to be going off internet poker alltogether i seem to have lost interest/patience and seem to be thinking about going to the casino all the time to the extent that im hardly going to play any internet poker at all and go to the casino/dtd 3 or 4 times a week because i find i play better and i love all the hustle and bustle and talking poker to different people face to face, also as new player i think it can only help my game playing live against other top players say in dtd.

So my question is do many people play live only and if so what are there reasons for this(other than not havin internet).

Loads of people just play live a common complaint is like you they find it boring and enjoy the banter of live poker. There are then a significant of the live poker population who internet poker is "rigged" but they are usually the value and have all manner of interesting ideas about poker.

Personally I almost go the other way with it, that I often get bored playing live when you are use to seeing 500+ hands per hour getting 20 bores me silly. Though the banter in live poker can often be entertaining.

I prefer live poker, but play mainly on t'internet.

I was playing the Friday night £30 at The Western and John Tabatabai was there, had an event upstairs and decided to play the tourney that night too - nice guy - don't get little bits like that on the internet- well you can sit with pro's but it's not quite the same.

I most definitely prefer live poker.  That's what it's all about, getting reads on people, working out whether you are infront.  Maybe it's me, but I find it far harder to make a big laydown online than I do live.  I notice a particularly large difference between live and online cash games.  Live cash games are normally far looser, and people will try and see a cheap flop with any two cards a lot of the time.  It's more about post flop play.  Online its all about position and pot odds, and it is much more difficult to get an accurate read on players.  The social aspect of live poker is something that appeals to me a lot too.

My patience severely lacks online as well.  If I stick all my chips in in a live tournament and I don't win the hand, its time for an early bath.  If I stick all my chips in on an online tournament, oh well, what time does the next one start?  It's just not the same feeling.  Maybe that's why my live track record is in the plus column, and my internet is in the minus.  It quite often seems almost like a totally different game.  I only tend to use the internet now when I am very bored or if I am playing a satellite to a big live event.

sounds like we are in the same boat especially the point about big lay downs i seem to call or re-raise alot more online with a big hand mainly because i think they are bluffing a lot more and also knowing if i get it wrong i can just join another game immediatly, i think that is the prob too loose online not enough patience maybe.

Personally I enjoy live poker more, but find the net so much more convenient and I get to select whatever table looks the juciest from a choice of thousands.

My advice for a new player would be to spend a lot of time on the internet at first - you get so many more hands under your belt which will aid your learning faster. Plus you can go as low as you wish to try new things out. But if you love the live game then no reason not to stick with it, internet poker didnt exist once upon a time and that didnt stop the Phil Iveys of this world become the very best. Whenever I spend a lot of time playing live I struggle to get back into it online.

I prefer playing online. I like playing live when its a big buyin event but they dont come around too often. I hate playing cheaper buyin live events. You can get some decent comps with decent structures online for £25 - £100 but live decent structures for that amount are few and far between.

Saying that like most people I enjoy the banter of playing live, the blonde bashs are great fun.

Yep, when I'm playing online now I make sure that I'm doing something else like watching the TV etc  I know many people say that that lessens concentration and makes you play worse, but for me it sometimes aids me in that I don't get involved in hands that I have no business being in.  And I don't panic so much if I feel like I'm getting shortstacked (when I'm not really) and wait for the right time to push.  If I do get into a big hand, I switch it off for a minute.  Plus I'm normally only playing about 2 tables max so there isn't too much going on.

I dunno...I don't play much live so when I do I tend to have more fun...but the main money these days is online so I guess I play more there because of that.
