yeah wtf, i thought it was known that all his qualifications were moody and he lied about it all in the 80's to do films, when did he fight before?

Nah his kickboxing bakground is a lie and he was never "twice world champion" as he claimed but he was european Shotokan Champion which means ees pritty ard innit.

He wasn't champion of anything.  I trained with Miyazaki-sensei in a special week-long training camp in France along with 5 other Brits who were special guests of the host town.  Anyway, Miyazaki had trained Van Damme in Belgium, and he said his technique isn't great and he was more interested in looking good than actually being any good.  Obviously a good thing for his film career, but he'd get battered in the K1 dwarf-division.

From the Gospel that is Wikipedia:

He eventually earned his black belt in karate,[9] later winning the European Karate Association's middleweight championship in a stunning upset versus the former champion Michael J. Heming[8] (although he has claimed that he was "twice world champion").[10] He started lifting weights to improve his physique, which eventually led to a Mr. Belgium bodybuilding title.[2]

Tbf you don't need his old Sensei to tell you his technique isn't the most honed on Earth - as your clip shows just watch the man dance! (Shocking as he used to do ballet) Even worse, he dances like that in real life - memories of seeing him dance on "The Word" so many years ago still makes me laugh out loud.

I've trained with an actual world Karate champion who knew him pretty well and he said basically JCVD beat up some guys robbing a diner and got spotted by some movie guy whilst doing it. There's no way to verify that but it's pretty funny if true. How many diners do you think it took?

Thing is, there are more associations and champions in karate than there are in boxing.  Also, unlike boxing, there isn't a governing body in so much that anyone can start a dojo and an association and award themselves and whoever they want a 9th-dan black-belt and the keys to the family treasure.

Oh, and Bloodsport is obviously his best film, even though it's an unashamed copy of Enter the Dragon.
