STT Situation
«
on:

Not a normal STT, this is a £50 Double your money, 6 player table, now down to the final 4...
Remember this is a FLAT payout - £100 for 1st, 2nd & 3rd, there is no extra cash in going for the win, basically it is a ''satellite''...
The blinds are now 200/400, each player has exactly the same chips, 2250, after staring with 1500...
We are UTG, please give a quick range you push with (if not all?), a range which you push with depending on players to act (lets assume they are all aggressive, compotent players), and a range you fold with...
Try and do this WITHOUT using ICM calculator/pokerstove etc...
Thanks...

UTG I will probably fold anything apart from AA or KK like I would in a satellite.

Hmmm if they really are competent you can push any two profitably, right as their calling ranges are kk+, right? Then we just pwn and rap up the money as no sod can call our pushes from then on.
Back in reality im pushing really tight. AQ+,99+.

I run this through sngpt after my guess it appear i wasn't far enough. In a game where everyone is playing perfectly, pushing atc is profitable here.
Thinly veiled brag post imo.

For me depends on image, if you have tight image, only shown decent hands, then my 1st push will often be with rags. Good chance it gets through, if not you've got live cards.
Otherwise keeping the range small, while waiting for the others to go busto.

If they know we are shoving ATC they can only call with JJ+ profitably not AK.

Longy, can you expand on this please? So your saying with the FLAT payout you'd play it the same as a normal payout STT by pushing any 2?

Well firstly the flat payout structure changes things, though the traditional 50/30/20 is relatively flat hence the non linear (chip ev vs $ev) situations we found ourselves in near the bubble.
Basically what im saying in a vacuum where everywhere knew how to play perfect ICM poker, pushing ranges can be so wide (any two cards in this case) because calling ranges should be so tight. This is kind of common sense as finishing 4th here is a disaster, so calling off your stack you have to be assured of being a pretty big favourite. Getting involved in any all in is generally bad for the 2 players involved as they dumping a tonne of equity to the 2 players not playing the hand.
In reality just about everyone apart from the top players are going to be calling with 99 and aq etc so we have to slightly haul back our pushing ranges. As its kind of "we know that he doesn't know what he is doing situation" and therefore we don't want to risk our stack.
The other advantage is once we have an edge chips we can bully the others so we are in a position of comfort.
Cliff Notes: Theoretically push any two, people are bad at poker so in reality thats not the case.
