Walking through ASDA the other day I noticed a whole range of fuel additives, like stuff that's a lead replacement type stuff that is to be used on certain cars.
Now I also noticed an additive that "cleans your nozzle" (or something like that) alledgedly making your engine run smoother and more economical...

Now I do like having a nice clean nozzle, so was wondering if this stuff actually works.

anyone?

No idea.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_additive

Still no idea.

Shell's VPower petrol is meant to contain additives that clean the engine and do what a lot of these fuel additives are supposed to do.

One of our customers a bit back bought into a franchise thing that was little pellets that you popped into your fuel tank to increase the mileage you got out of each tank.  Seemed a bit iffy to me, but he seemed happy with it.  Can't remember what they were called now though.

I got my brother and grandparents to use them and switch away from supermarket fuel to a big brand (Shell round here, directly opposite Tesco's so usually same price or cheaper).

Both say the car felt smoother and got improved MPG - significantly more so in my brother's case.

As always YMMV.

edit: use the nozzle cleaner (fuel injection) additives - not something added to every tank.

I do feel a difference in the engine's performance when I use Shell or Jet compared to when I go to Morrisons or Tescos..haven't been looking out for an increase in mileage but guess I should...

I get better MPG from Sainsbury's than I do from Shell.  I get the same MPG from BP (who supply Sainsbury's) - but it's a lot more expensive per litre.

I've not seen a difference in performance, except when I filled up at a Texaco station.  Won't be doing that again.

Tesco are supplied by Texco and JS by BP and WMM by Esso.  All comes from the same refinery in you locale, and all have the same grading structure for purity they are allowed to sell.  Do you really think the supermarkets would sell a lower grade fuel?  or that Esso etc wouldn't if they could get away with it?

Shell/BP are the only ones who offer anything different in this market.  If you really want value for money ask your garage owner about pump calibration.

I've been told that the fuel is the same but different brands use different additives which can affect performance.

Yeah that's what I'm saying..If I use Shell or Jet I seem to have a smoother engine than if I use anyone else.

I don't think anybody sells shit as such..but some brands must be better..that is the way it works.
