I recently heard Michael Johnson talking about Walter Dix, a college athlete in America who Johnson believes would have easily been competing for medals in both the 100m and 200m at this year's World Championships had he chosen to run instead of finishing college.

I've done a bit of checking and he's shattered both college records for 100m and 200m running 9.93 and 19.69 (6th fastest 200m time EVER) respectively.

Considering the lack of depth in sprinting at the moment I think he could be a good early bet for either the 100m or 200m or both.

Maybe this isn't the best bet.

Tyson Gay was very impressive in both events and for once he doesn't look like an athlete on drugs.

Gay was v impressive.

But i also think that Bolt will have improved considerably for next year, being only 21 years at the mo! And injury permitting will be going close for gold.

Yes, and the reason Bolt couldn't get to Gay was a lack of fluidity in his technique, and that can be coached into him - the raw speed is probably there.

I think Gay is exactly what sprinting needs right now, a quick, fluid, smooth runner who doesn't look like a condom full of walnuts.
