David Vine has died of a heart attack aged 73

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/front_page/7824275.stm

Vine was THE commentator when I was a kid watching sport on TV ... and the host of "Question of Sport" when it was a highlight of the TV viewing week.

RIP Mr Vine.

Strangely, I'd just read about this, then went out to Waterstones during my lunchbreak, and they were playing the BBC showjumping theme music in the shop.

A voice from my childhood.  I loved the sense of theatre from his weightlifting commentary at the Olympics.

As Tighty said, iconic. A special place in the affections of most fortysomethings.

R.I.P

Back in the day when he presented Question of Sport it was a proper quiz for real sports fans none of that piss poor light entertainment.
