Kettle is the way forward. There's nothing you can do in a microwave that you can't do on a cooker but you can't get a decent cuppa from a microwave.

I could happily cope without either.
I don't have a microwave because they make everything taste shit.
Oven or hob might take a bit longer but it's worth the wait to have nicer food.
I'm not a tea or coffee drinker so don't really need a kettle. I have one anyway for boiling water for making rice or pasta. The only reason I do that is because I think it's more efficient energy wise. I may be wrong though. If anybody can put me right on this I've got a kettle spare if anyone wants it.
