I find myself in the position of arranging a funeral. It is not going to be a religious affair so instead of a hymn i thought that we would have a suitable poem read out. Whilst i really like Auden's "Stop all the clocks" i think that would be a bit corny and would like to go for something less well known. If anyone knows of a poem at all suitable if you could just post the title and author and i will find it on line.

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

How about writing one though? It's become a tradition in our family that when someone passes on the younger grandkids write a poem and it's read at the funeral. Quite nice I think.

this is the only other one I can recall off the top of my head, so probably also too well known.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

I like the first two verses of Dylan Thomas', Do not go gentle into that good night

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

There's more to the poem, but you don't want it going on and on.

That's a good 'un.
