It would have been Eric Idle if, when he stepped out of the pit, he'd looked down the camera at 3 billion people and sung the theme tune from One Foot In The Grave.

Could have had the centrepiece of a huge plant pot with dancers inside forming the face of Victor Meldrew. Then Fatboy Slim could have done a D J set from a giant dachshund telephone.

[note to self: I'd make a great opening/closing ceremony director for the next Olympics]

Failing that, as it didn't actually happen, Rudisha stood out for me.
