I don't think you are obliged to update it, I updated my hotel and flight number, but no one else in our group bothered.

Yeah I'd imagine you're right,  I just don't like to take the risk with americans given how awkward and pedantic they can be when it suits

Someone has put me on to this site now - www.lowcostusa.co.uk which has some great hotel deals for next Summer, for instance 14 nights at the Cosmopolitan for £1155 (rack rate on Cosmo's website is $179 per night) and if you buy now and pay in £ sterling there is no exchange rate risk.
