this £10 was kept by the casino, and not a dealer tip

If it is advertised up front as not going to the prize pool then the player has a choice whether to play or not

If it isn't shown anywhere that the money is an extra deduction, then I would imagine that is a Gaming Commission Issue

20% tip is a bit toppy.

Doubt anyone would moan about £1 or maybe £2.

+1

In the US it is $10 extra on a $200 entry.  Total charge is this comp is 30%, so playing in it = stupid.

You can't think of the dealer tip as a % thing, more an absolute. In the US it's generally $10 regardless of buy-in.

Surely you can't begrudge leaving a tip for the dealing / floor staff ?

I can when it is 20% and when I am being forced into it with a bribe. When you play cash you tip the dealer AFTER the hand, when you have some read on whether the dealer is giving you good service. Happy to leave a deece tip after winning/cashing big.

Another thing, I would think in the uk that the "tip" would get taxed thru gaming duty, so as little as half of it could go to staff anyway.

gotta love the cardroom manager who requested to the players at the final table that they leave £250 for the valets despite taxing them 30% on top of the entry fee.

they agreed £150

Not sure on the legalities on this one.

We had a £10 rebuy (1000 stack) in Brighton and before the start of the comp the players were invited, their choice, to purchase another 1000 chips for £5.
It was clearly announced that the £5 would be going to the dealers and NOT into the prizepool.
The majority of players took up this offer and were happy that the dealers were getting it not the casino.
This lasted for 3 or 4 weeks until head office stepped in and told us it was illegal as you could not offer chips for money that was not going into the prize pool...?

torquay casino (genting) have had this set up in play for almost 2 years. for extra £5 you got extra 1000 chips in all comps.this money DIDNOT go into prize pool,
killed the prize pool in 30/40 runner £10/£20 rebuys. £10 tournet doesnt even run now, they have stopped it at the moment tho.

I would imagine these companies are running at a profit? If so why not give the dealers a pay rise? get more customers then everyone is happy  disco

apart from the shareholders obv

people complained, some wouldnt buy extra chips etc but they carried on with it.
maybe it had something to do with the runners going from 60/80 on afriday night for the £20 rebuy to about 20/30 now , prob a few other factors contribute to numbers fall but imo it didnt help as the prize pools deff became smaller.
they kept saying they were gonna use it for new tables etc
