Had an interesting hand in the Incredible 100 last night that really got my mind working on where is the line with angle shooting? Now its a touchy subject in the poker world but in my personal opinion i fine it difficult to define the line sometimes between angle shooting and say using the rules and your experience to your advantage. I don't think i have ever intentionally angle shot a complete stranger, I have tried to get one over on friends in home games and pub games! But that is a different kettle of fish!
Anyway the hand in question and my thought process.
I am in the SB and the HJ (villain) has limped and button has limped i come along with A9 and BB checks. Bored comes

and i am holding the

. The HJ puts out a bet of about half the pot and i come along for the ride. heads up to the turn which comes 9x. i check and she bets the same amount as she did on the flop again on the turn. (1/4 of the pot). I check her stack and she has about 5K behind with 4k in the middle if i call the turn. A bit awkward as i think if i jam she is folding all her hands i am ahead of and calling all the hands that have me crushed. I flat so there is 4k in the middle and 5k in her stack (I have about 25k). the river comes an off suit K.
She insta james. With her being HJ and me being SB this bet is out of turn.
Heres where my thought process starts. I dont act (or react) i just look up at the dealer (cheetan) to acknowledge that he knows that i know that bet is out of turn. So here is where i considered my options. I have seen this bet before many times as an intentional bet often with a bluff but sometimes with a very strong hand.
Option 1: So i was thinking if this is an angle shoot i can just check and then her bet stands and i can call the 5k and hope she is bluffing. Therefore if she is bluffing i can take max value from the hand. But if i am wrong and she has the goods I lose 5k.
Option 2: I chuck out one chip say a 500 chip and see what happens then. This then opens up many options depending on her next action. If she exposes her cards (thinking that i have called) and she has the nuts...
Is her hand dead as she has shown her cards?
If it is not dead obviously i just muck my cards and it has cost me 500 to find out i am behind.
Or i throw out a 500 chip and she thinks i have called but she then shows me a hand i beat? She technically is still to act but has shown me a losing hand obviously i am not going to show my cards until the dealer has sorted out the mess.
I ended up checking and then calling. As i thought i was ahead so wanted the 5k she had put over the line. But my mind then started wandering, thinking about my other options and were the line would stand her. Effectively me throwing out a 500 chip in my opinion would be angle shooting but if she has already angle shot me is that ok? (two wrongs don't make a right i know BUT!! ; ))
Or is this just a case of me trying to use the rules to my advantage in that if i throw out a 500 chip i know that that is effectively a raise to 500 and her bet now does not stand. If she does not know that is the case is that my problem?
