what ho chaps,

situation is as follows:

i have a 4 year old laptop with,

intel celeron processor 900 @ 2.20GHz 2.19 GHz

4GB RAM

64bit system (W7)

3.3 score on the windows rating

has no dedicated graphics card

i have a hard drive with a reasonable number of 1080p DVDs on it, aquired from various people i work with offshore, however when i play these films my laptop appears to struggle and the high def turns into a stuttering mess. i usually use VLC media player if that helps

So, is there a program/media player out there that can downgrade the films to standard definition that my laptop can play?

At the moment my only useable option is to tranfer the films to my phone and watch them on that, and i'm not treating myself to a new laptop till the january sales

thanks in advance

mick

Download and install K Lite codec pack. If you can't play them after that then you are in trouble. With those specs you should be fine though.

Did the k lite thing.

Managed to avoid the irritating spamware add ons

Noticed that it had updated into my windows media player

Tried VLC which was still stuttering

Works great on WMP now though

Thanks Mili, I'll buy you a beer if you make the GP day 2(and are at my table, 3 seats to my left, and wearing a hat)

I'm always wearing a hat. In fact I just got 2 new hats yesterday to add to my collection. But you can keep that beer money in your pocket as I haven't made a day 2 since 1999.

Normally VLC recognises the new codecs. The WMP Classic it comes with is pretty nifty anyway. Glad it's worked out for ya. Working away and not being able to watch stuff on the lappy is a nightmare.
