Crazy read, the wonders of a forum, felt like it was happening as I was reading. So many so called clued up people got sucked in and they just didn't have a clue.

Any blondes get a load from the other side, the bets? Arboy mentioned Theo FGS at 39's?

He said 46.

Incredible, really. Like lambs to the slaughter. I'm sure there were many people backing the FGS without realising what was going on; just seeing "Oooh I quite fancy Rosicky at 30/1" or whatever. Obviously, some of the betfair forumites would have got wind and been loading up, too.

There will be people reading this who, if they were to be given a time machine, would feel uncomfortable going back to that night and hoovering up the money.

You could literally back every player that was starting once you knew the team news.

I found it remarkable he retweeted my throwaway comment and bothered to reply.

He must be extremely insecure to set his hoard of lemmings masquerading as his followers on me.

They were far more pleasant than 1D followers. If you insult Harry Styles the wrath of thousands of prepubescent eleven year old girls is an irresistable force.

I think the whole affiliate system is flawed.

Lewis has grown hugely rich, pointing people the way of cheap deals.

I'd prefer it if producers offered their goods and services at the correct price, not the correct price + whatever they have given to leaches like Martin Lewis.

It's like reward cards in shops.

I'm sick to death of shop assistants saying "That'll be £23.49, have you got a rewards card?".

"No I bloody haven't. I am not prepared to sell you my personal details for a 1% discount on my basket of shopping. Please sell me the goods at their correct price, not the correct price +1%."

Makes me want to shop lift one item every time I go to Sainsburys to make up for the amount they are over charging me.

Still was an amusing way to spend an hour on a boring Thursday afternoon.

There was a bug in the Betfair software that meant you could lay every player in the first goal scorer market for an apparent guaranteed profit. As it was guaranteed you could do this as often as possible, making more profits from your increasing bankroll.

The bug overlooked the fact that some players would not be in the squad at all and therefore anyone betting on them would have their bet refunded. Now the source of most of your apparent profit has gone but you still need to pay out the winners.

One guy ended up 12k in the red. Betfair covered the losses as it was their bug that misrepresented the exposure incurred.

I think that's right.
