Bangor City  FC?

In January 1979 Bob Paisley took Liverpool for a friendly at Farrar Rad, Bangor

Farrar Road is now an Asda supermarket

why were Liverpool there?

"the highlight of the season for the fans occurred on January the 30th, when Liverpool were the visitors in a friendly. Liverpool were the European champions, having won the European cup in both 1977 and 1978. Liverpool had gone eight weeks without playing due to the terrible winter, and were desperate for a game. Liverpool’s full Division One team, including Kenny Dalglish, Ray Clemence, and captain Emlyn "Crazy Horse" Hughes, beat Bangor 4-1. "

i like photos like this because they tell you so much

8 weeks without a game for a top flight team? that will be before undersoil heating then

a full first team goes to Bangor? yes, not Abu Dhabi or Singapore or wherever for a quick buck or warm weather training, back the next day for a game

so i then got looking at bangor city

three times in the cup winners cup, twice in the uefa cup

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangor_City_F.C._in_European_football

anyway, an unusual photo

A brilliant picture - I love it.

Liverpool went on to win the league again in 78/79 but were knocked out of the European Cup in the 1st round by Forest. Those were the days!

I don't think the facts in the quote are entirely accurate. Liverpool played a league game on 26/12/1978 and next played a league game on 03/02/1979. They did play some FA Cup games in Jan 1979 tho.

I have to own up about working out Bangor. There is an advertising hoarding in the picture for the Tyn Lon Garage which is still in existence and  just over the water in Anglesy Smiley

Incredible that their first ge in Europe was a draw over two legs, and they had to have a replay to decide the winner.
