From the original idea of filling the bit between the first and second halves with a marching band playing the usual anthems, the biggest annual sporting event in the world now has a major act performing a medley of a few of their hits.

Adele has turned it down for 2017 so there is an open slot for a big star to fill 15 minutes. To give you a feel for how big an act we are talking about, here's who has been the main performing act since 1990:

1991: New Kids on the Block
1992: Gloria Estefan
1993: Michael Jackson
1994: Clint Black and others
1995: Tony Bennett and others
1996: Diana Ross
1997: The Blues Brothers
1998: Various Motown acts
1999: Stevie Wonder
2000: Walt Disney special (Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, Phil Collins and Tina Turner)
2001: Aerosmith
2002: U2
2003: Shania Twain
2004: Jessica Simpson (plus others including Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake...remember?)
2005: Paul McCartney
2006: The Rolling Stones
2007: Prince
2008: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
2009: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
2010: The Who
2011: Black Eyed Peas
2012: Madonna
2013: Beyoncé
2014: Bruno Mars
2015: Katy Perry
2016: Coldplay

You get the idea.

So, who would you have and why? As you will see from the youtube videos, the main act gets to have as many guests as they want, but bear in mind you only get 15 minutes so make use of the time.

I'll start the ball rolling...

My first choice would be Meat Loaf.

That'd be a great opening number. Maybe Bat out of Hell in the middle if the networks allow the word Hell. Could finish with I Would Do Anything for Love.

All the over the top nonsense that makes the Super Bowl what it is, plus some great music and plenty to get the crowd going.

Get him on the shortlist, Pepsi, please!

Think he'd probably be a decent fit for the Superbowl.

Nobody takes risks these days.

Turn the lights off and just put this on.

Maybe follow it up with New Grass and Ascension Day too.

And make them drink coke too, pepsi is bloody awful.
