There really is no need for private individuals to have fireworks.

Firework sets you buy from Tesco are really crap and just cause a nuisance in the wrong hands.

Public displays are far better and safer.

No.  Gambling, cars and drinking would be way higher if public damage was the criteria.  Distressing cats and a fair proportion of the dog population can only be a good thing.   

Crappy Tesco fireworks are fine for kids, maybe ban all the ones that say stand 25 yards away.

In our village they start letting fireworks off a month before Nov 5th and don't stop until a month after.

It's like the Somme.

I wouldn't mind but the average age here is ~ 65.

Ban.

They are dangerous and too many people don't handle them properly. Thousands of unnecessary injuries can be avoided by getting rid.

Backyard fireworks displays are usually rubbish anyway.
