1. Gambling Commission publishes proposed new rules to govern gambling in Britain
The Gambling Commission has today published a draft of the new rules which will govern British gambling in future.
The new Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice are being introduced under the Gambling Act 2005. They are designed to secure the Act’s three objectives of keeping crime out of gambling, making sure gambling is fair and open and protecting children and vulnerable people from harm.
The changes will apply to casinos, bingo clubs, lotteries and gaming machines, as well as betting and online gambling which are being bought under the Gambling Commission’s jurisdiction for the first time.
Many of the new rules are intended to combat problem gambling. This is a major concern of the Commission, and alongside our Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice we have published an issues paper, which sets out the context and background to our approach.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has published its proposals for the implementation of the Gambling Act from 1 September 2007. The transitional arrangements map out how the government proposes to move from the complex system of licences, permits and registrations under the current legislation, to the new system of regulation introduced by the Gambling Act 2005.

The Gambling Commission and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport have issued a joint note, setting out our view on the application of the Gaming Act 1968 in respect of advertisements for remote gaming. It is intended to provide guidance to advertisers, publishers and remote gaming operators on the types of advertisements that the Government and Commission will consider passing to the CPS on the basis that they are in breach of the 1968 Act.
