I have discovered a weak part of my game, when playing STTs and the table is down to 4 players I always seem to haemorrhage chips.

It seems that it's just down to luck whether I get through this phase of play or not.

Either I play too tight and just get blinded away OR I play too loose and just phiss all my chips away.

There must be a happy medium - but where is that medium?

Any info, articles or opinions on this phase of the game would be rally appreciated-

When i play and theres 4 left i change gears, on the button i raise with anything. people dont want to go out in 4th so they play tight, you must fight to live so try it, be more aggressive and put pressure on. If you go out then at least you can say you tried, and not got blinded away Cool

Yep, I agree, you have to make a move.  With only 4 people, lesser hands could easily be the strongest hand in play.  A substantial raise will see off any weaker hands and whilst you may lose now and again, you should make the money more often.

it really depends on where I am with regards number of chips as to how I play the hands.

If I'm Chip leader then I'm a bit wary of the short stacks pushing all in with rags so usually wait for premium hands before moving in against them. If its against someone with a little less than me than I'd get a bit creative with my starting hands - its easier to push off someone with the chips to call than it is against a short stack.

If I'm the short stack then I'd wait until the play wasnt with the chip leader then move in. The last thing someone would want is to be in 2nd or 3rd highest on chip count only to double you up and for them to be short stack.

If im short stack i dont like to hang around otherwise you will get blinded, i have nothing to lose and everything to gain, i push all the way, if im chip leader then i bully i not worried as much as the short stacked, as it was mentioned there is not so many big hands 4 ways. If you use your postion then you will do well. I have won many stt from being short stacked and lost many though being to aggressive, but the wins are more than the losses. Never be affraid to make a move without a premium hand, you could wait for aces only to get cracked by a short stack with 47. Cool
