Confused of Oxford here... please clarify -

I was just looking through a free poker mag, picked up recently, at the advert for the Torneo di Poker in Slovenia (not that I have any intentions of going).

They are advertising a 500Euro PLHE with 1 re-buy OR 1 add-on

and a 1000Euro NLHE Double Chance.

Can somenone explain to the new kid, the difference between 1 re-buy OR 1 add-on and  Double Chance... or are they in fact the same thing?

Cheers,

ok,

1 rebuy or 1 add on...for an extra 500 you get a rebuy during the stipulated period or if you do not require it the addon at the end of the rebuy period

Total cost 1000 but it may only cost you 500 should you so choose (ie you get chipped up early and don't require the rebuy and decline the add on)

double chance...total cost 1000 upfront...you are given a ticket and can claim a second allocation of chips...in some double chances it is right at the start, in some it is say only when you lose half or more of your inital stack

Popular strategy has it that it is advantageous to take your double chance asap, even before the first hand...though there are different ways of playing it

to summarise....very similar, but a couple of subtle differences

Somehow I double-clicked a response to this, even though Tight-end already responded...  Cheesy

This is just a guess -

The 500 one-rebuy-or-add-on only tournament could be played for 500 Euros only, by someone who doesn't want to rebuy or add-on.

However, the 1000 Euro Double Chance Freezeout costs 1000 Euro; you cannot buy-in for 500 Euro and simply refuse the extra chance.

So the 1000 Double Chance Freezeout basically is the same thing, except the rebuy option is MANDATORY rather than OPTIONAL.

To someone who was planning on making the rebuy/add-on in the 500 regardless, the tournaments would seem identical though, I agree.

Does that sound right?

OK... thanks TightEnd (& Zimbra), I understand the difference now.
