So there i was, thinking about my life, when a question i had never considered hit me.

When i cease to exist as a corporeal being, what is the legal stand on my poker winnings held in various accounts online?

What do the online poker rooms do in the event of a client dying?  Will my partner be able to retrieve them?  I would assume that my poker earnings are classed similarly to any other money i may leave behind, but in this day and age of the law being out of date concerning our modern lifestyle and way of living, is this true?

Interesting point.

There was a similar discussion last week.

A very interesting Post.

Remember one thing though. The Law, as we know it, does not apply to Online Sites.....

So perhaps including very specific instructions in my will is the only way to resolve this issue?

How would that help?

If the Site does not want to pay out to your Executors, nothing can make them.

Best way is not to tell the Site you have deceased. Get the Executors, or Good Lady, to access the site via your Password, & withdraw the money.

Easiest thing to do is tell a family memeber your password and instructions of how to get your online roll into your bank account in the sad event of your demise.

Then it'll be divvied up according to whatever you've stipulated in your will.

I'd be interested in how much significant money is lying in poker accounts whose owners have deceased. It must be a fair whack.

Would seem the only recourse to this is, like has been suggested, have Helen log-in after my death and retrieve the cash.

Just as long as she plays one tournament in my honour.

Sad I would give such a tournament my very, very best shot in honour of all you have taught, and given  me, Bainn,

but ANYWAY, this ain't going to happen for a very, very long time  Smiley

Unfortunately, it has to be said, the point you raise is a most valid and interesting one to consider, isn't it?

Meanwhile enjoy your poker!

what most people tend not to do is write down all of their online passwords ready to be passed on when they do. if these were all jotted down and put as part of the will then whoever has access then to your poker account can do with it what they will.
