Just to explain, Ian Dury did a song called "spasticus Autisticus" to highlight problems for disabled people and it backfired a bit when it was banned by a load of radio stations and record shops.

And, too see this in context, you'd need to be aware that Ian had quite severe personal disabilities. In the age in which Ian was bought up, he would have been described as a "spastic". He was hugely influential in raising the awareness that folks with disabilities should not be discriminated against, so it was a bit odd that his music highlighting this was banned by Radio 1!

Well put Tikay - offended plenty - but sometimes offense is worthwhile and needed.

Showed discrimination against disability more that it was banned IMHO.

Yes, the supreme irony that the suits at the Radio Stations got whooshed completely by Ian! "No discrimination" they trumpeted, to a man who knew more about being discriminated against than most.

My Grandad, God Bless Him - loved "Hit Me With Your Rythmn Sticks", he drove us all absolutely barmy singing it - he did it all the more cos he knew we all detested it.

If I ever hear that song now it makes me smile cos of the torture my Grandad put us through.
