The car seems like a reasonable deal.

A few things to check:

1/ AA do a full 100 point check of the car and it costs around £100. Money well worth spending as the last thing you want is to find something wrong with it a few months down the line.

2/ The mileage seems very low for a car of this age so make sure its has a full service book by a main dealer with all the stamps. If she has past MOT's that aslo good.

3/ Be aware that the colour is not the easiest for resale and you may have probs finding a buyer when you eventually come to sell it and you will also find it may loose a bit more money as a result as oposed to the more popular colours.

4/ There is a company called dentmasters look them up on the net and most dealerships use them to remove minor dings and scratches. They will also come to your house and offer a very good service.

Finally if its the car of your dreams go for it but negotiate hard, if everything stacks up then it makes sense. You will have a lot of fun in a car like this especially with the weather as it is. The MX5 has had some very good reviews in past years for performance and reliablilty. A friend of mine had one and she loved it.

Good luck.

Dan.

book value for a private sale on a car like this is £5.5K

if you want to give your friend an extra monkey, then its up to you. at 5.5K you are still giving them 800 quid more than they will get on a "flat" trade in.

Edit : Just noticed that they have a hardtop included in the sale - so you can add an extra 4-500 quid onto the price, so the deal looks a lot better now.
If it was me, I wouldnt be paying 6 grand.

your choice though...

£5750-£6000

Book price doesnt take into consideration one lady owner from new and full main dealer service history + it has only done 35k! If the book price says £5500 the f/s history and 1 lady owner and low mileager is definitely worth £200-£500.

Take £5,500 in cash round there, show them the money, and say

"Here, all I have is £5,500, all you have to say is Yes...................."

Always worked for me in the past....
