I understand the thinking behind there being no set 'rules' on the forum, but I really think the time has come for some 'guidelines' with there being so many active members now.  There are many things that Tikay and others have, very rightly, said are not welcome on the forum - sectarianism being at the forefront at the moment, but also racism, flaming etc.

Having one clear post on the topic of what isn't acceptable, and what the resulting measures should the guidelines be breached would, in my opinion, help to avoid too many problems in the future.  I would imagine it would also make the moderators' jobs that bit easier as they would be able to draw attention to the guidelines if people were overstepping the mark.

just a thought.

Kinda against that. Clearly outlining what consitutes guff.

A big long winded set of rules only serves to put off new members.

Most people who post guff know exactly what they are doing.
Just coz there's specific rules against it, it's unlikely to stop them.

You'd get a herd of disgruntled types nitpicking the "rules" to claim that so and so should be reprimanded, they were in clear violation of article 5, subsection C paragraph 4.

There's also the age old argument of context.

More mods is the way to go IMHO, I believe they're on the case, and we can all rest easy in our jimjams.  thumbs up

We run a moderated forum and we have a strict no spamming no flaming/offensive post policy.

If I got that PM, the first thing I would be looking for is where this strict policy is!

Anyway, as I said, it was just a thought, and if the mods don't feel it's necessary, it's not my place to butt in!

That is the policy ... no spamming or flaming.

but surely 'spamming' and 'flaming' need a little definition?

I would have thought that anyone using an internet forum would know what constitutes spamming or flaming.

But you illustrate perfectly the pitfalls in having a set of rules/guidelines ... whatever you put in them, someone will always nitpick and find loopholes Wink

There are posts being made on Football threads which quite obviously are being made for the purpose of winding up other people. Whilst in perspective this isnt as bad as sectarian abuse, the people resposnsible for these posts maybe need to take a long hard look at themselves, and ask if their foolish baiting of fellow forum members achieved the desired results.
