online low limit STT, occasionally low buy in MTT, micro limit cash. I'm an amateur with a slowly built bankroll over a couple of years, thats reached stagnation over the last few months. I've not played live for 2 years.
Its a hobby, & will stay like that, I'll keep it fun, & not take it too serious.

I've been playing for just under 2 years now.

Live.

When i first started i managed to win 4 times in my first 7 visits to the Grosvenor, Cardiff.   thought this could be my 'niche' but reality has kicked in,
and i've only cashed once this year.
Also play live MTT (£20 ish)  in Newport, but i have great difficulty in beating all the fish there (and there are some REALLY bad players).

Online.

Tend to play most formats (Cash/STT/MTT).  Given up on the cash for the moment, as the swings as very volatile. Make a steady profit in the $10 STT, but im trying to crack the MTT's at the moment.

the feed back im getting here is that a lot of blondes play mostly online ,this is not a dig at anyone but it seems to me that it sounds as if nobody wins online????ok red gets a few results and a few others but im sure that online DO NOT PAY,,,,,, i just think online is a expensive way of entertainment the only winner online i think is the rake,i think the only value online imho is to play small mtts  ,without showing off but i have played from £3 up to £2000 online mtts and i really dont see any diffrence in the play as to £3 its crazy as to £2k is the same as the £100 and above tourneys seem to bring bigger players i.e bigger bankrolls i.e bigger bluffers and looser players ,thinking they can make more moves on lower rolled players...in lehmans terms if i played
£3  re- buy against a guy on £250 a week wages i think the game would be quite tight from him,but if i was playing aginst a guy @ £2000 hup i dont know who he is he could be a millionaire and be very loose,,,bloody hell lol,
my point is i think online is no good
its ok for small fun
but i dont ever think anyone will get a fortune and keep it
as it just gets passed around, ive spoken to a lot of top players online about this and a lot agreed
they all seemed to think that only 2-5%off online players actually win (long term)

Online games are more competitive than live in terms of rake charged, bonuses offered, rakeback paid.  The games are faster and multi-tabling is possible, so you can get far more hands/hr online than live.  Also, the 'overhead' costs of online play are much lower than live.  Therefore, from a purely 'profit' perspective the chances of making money online are far greater than they are playing live.

I play for fun. $2-$10 STT $1-$10 MTT's and Micro cash games, also £10-£20 MTT live games.

I do it to meet people and have a laff, I dont really care about being great or making cash. Its cheap form of entertainment for me.

pretty much identical here

I'm more of a gambler so my bankroll management is appalling.  In short I can't manage it  Cheesy  I think I need a poker mentor.  Or preferably someone to let me use their account and buy me into a game I play better if someone has staked me in or indeed if I am playing someone elses money if they ask me to play for them.

I play both live and online.

Live I will play cash game stakes from 25p/50p PL to £1/£2 NL.  I am a failry decent cash game player when I take it seriously but most times when I buy into a cash game I am there for the craic.

In regards to the Tourneys I play these online as well mostly $5, $10, $20, $50 STT's will sometimes venture into $100 STT's.  MTT's I play $10 rebuys - $150 freezeout.

Live tourneys I will play anything from £5 bingo rebuy fests to whatever I can afford when its on.   Cheesy

I don't think much of gambling between 2k a month that I would say ia bout average for me.

Again I come back to my first point I am a gambler without discipline.  I aim to start a fresh in the new year and start keeping records and properly try and manage a bankroll.  I was planning this a few months back but a few unexpected things came up.

What's poker?

Trace, thanks for asking this question.

I also would like to know what MTT/STT/ online and live games stand for?  ' 25p/50p PL to £1/£2 NL' those must be some secret codes that I would like to know what they mean.

So the 'blondepoker' is not an online dating agency?

Always thought it was weird; all those posts with weird cards symbols and blinds and stacks and bizarre screen names; I thought that this is some kind of flirting game, fortune telling threads predicting the weather.

I mean 'bad beats' stories?  At first I thought they were about pub fights and domestic violence, instead pple are posting something like hand histories that I have difficulty in understanding them. Those must be coded messages I am sure, so the villains and victims can't be prosecuted.

So 'poker' is not an abrieviation for 'poke her'?

having just spent all my money on a new house i am now splashing about in the $10/$20 stts again and same for mtts until i can get some bankroll going.

Recently had a great streak with 3 online wins of 3k +  and 2 live wins for 3.5k and 2.1k which came in very handy for a deposit and some extra savings. Now trying to learn how to play cash games properly because i'm an absolute fish. Hope to be playing $5/$10 next year some time.

If I can make the money I've made playing recreationally online, then I'm sure there are people making a very nice income online.  I'm currently paying for my kitchen extension from my poker winnings - so even if I lose all my bankroll, I'm up.

I think you're wrong to say that people can't make money online.  A lot don't of course, but that's the same in live games isn't it?

I usually play $1/$2 NL online, and my bankroll has been built up completely from my winnings and my initial $40 deposit (when I started on the 0.05/0.10 tables).

Started to play  a few more tourneys now, and have played only a handful of times live.  Talking of tourneys, got the Sunday Million on PokerStars to play this evening...

There are a fair few winners online james - pab and geeforce spring to mind instantly- both making a full time living off it ( they also happen to be excellent live players too.  for my part i am just a part-time player- but could not play if i reguarly lost. as you know i play play stt/mtt live- £100 rebuy being my fav. also played a few festivals when time allows- luton/walsall/cardiff/aruba that sort of thing.

Online I play $200 stts (some 100 and 500 too), and lots of the bigger mtts (with reasonable sucess) mostly on tribeca (as Khazi) or stars and UB. i have got to this point working my way up the levels and by maintaining a workable bankroll- its taken a few big dents but not gone bust yet(touch wood). and yes  I am in profit online ( analy retentive as i am - i keep records of every single game that i play live onlive the lot)

Oh and for the record- sofa-king- james IS mad and is probably the best chip accumulator that i have played against or seen......... its just that he doesnt always keep them . stirthepot stirthepot

I play mostly $5 and $10 Sng mostly STT but sometimes MTT SnG's

I usually do OK in SnG's but use up my bankroll chasing dreams of qualifying
for EPT/WPT events and thinking I can get the better of 400 to 500 players
in other regular MTT's

I play live in Cincinatti's where I cashed in BB2. However this was probably due to the fact
that everyone was falling about drunk and I was on antibiotics and stone cold sober.
I've cashed in other tourneys in there as well right enough.

I'm not a gambler and play because I thoroughly enjoy the game. I'm competitve by nature but
I'm too old and fat to compete in physical activities like I used too. This game gives me that buzz again.
I've not been  in a bookies in years and only put money on football through my skybet account.
Strictly low limit.

That's it

Mainly cash, 15/30 or 25/50.
Slow bankroll building, $110 of deposits - $4850 now.
12 months online.
Few S&G's and MTT's, up to $10. Still learning tournament play.
Play live once a week - local clubs. Doing ok so far.

Interesting thread, nice one sofa----king.

Lol, you forgot to mention you were my official railbird at one point this year!  Cheesy

As for me, i started playing live about 2 years ago now i guess. I then found online poker fairly soon and started playing on UB until i managed to deposit on Laddies. From there i won a couple of tournies and lost some, i wasnt keeping any records back then. Earlier this year i managed to turn £50 to £5600 on Titan Poker within a week and won a nice couple of tournies on Laddies a few weeks later. I managed to live off that once i got sacked from work! oops... I have recently done it again on UB, depositing $90 and turning it into $10k in approx 8 days! I withdrew most of that and have recently decided to put a workable amount into Party and play their $50 turbos. First month went well, winning over $5k but now i have to start all over again on Pokerstars as the traffic on Party is not good enough anymore. I keep records on all my SNG's now and play multis on UB and Hills too. I play live about 3/4 days a week i guess. Speaking of which, i better get ready for the game tonight!! .... Good thread this SofaKing.
