Went to see the film last night, dragged kicking and screaming by my girlfriend.
The film was, well, ok.
The good parts were it looks great, with some nice visual effects and this translates the magic of harry potter's world nicely. Of course, the cast is filled with a plethora of british talent.... gary oldman, ralph fiennes , robbie coltrane etc but I have to say I think even at this early age it appears as though Daniel Radcliffe has little talent for acting. Considering he's the hero of the piece, it was nearly impossible to empathise with his wooden, banal Harry and this hurt the film somewhat.
Miichael gambon seemed to be going through the motions a little, but Gary Oldman is good and Imelda Staunton puts it the best performance as the stuffy, slightly evil, ministry-appointed teacher. Even I was rooting for her to get her commuppance.
There are many plot holes in the film and non harry potter fans will find several aspects of the plot confusing and contrived. Overall though it just about hangs together and although it will mainly appeal to children and harry potter fans id give it a 6/10.

I've read the new book already, and to be fair it's probably the worst of the lot, and I HATED Order of the Phoenix. Can't go into detail without spoilering, sorry!
That's some going, 608 pages in about an hour and a half?

Is someone going to tell me who, if anyone, 'gets it' in the new book?

It's better to be looking at it than looking for it.
