Did you download any video during that time?

No, not that I can recall. I may have opened a youtube thread though, I will be more vigilant today and report back.

Shouldn't affect the amount you download unless you're downloading or streaming video or music.  I suppose you could also be downloading lots of large images as well - but that's some going still.  Did you download any software updates?

Oh - of course sending and receiving large files via email also quickly adds up.

Not intentionally. although it might have done it automatically.

I think that usage is accurate because when I stop playing and browsing it drops to almost nothing.

I used over 100MB in the first 2 hours but have only used about 8MB per hour since.

Yes, probably accurate. As I said before, probably some programs updating. They will all try and do this when they see an internet connection for the 1st time in a while, was this the case? Windows update can easily use 50MB+ in a minute or 2 if there happens to be an update available right when you connect.

If you just connected (say via a usb speedtouch modem) and started to log your data usage, rather than you were connected for a little while already then started to log it, I think you would get a higher 1st hour (or half hour) reading.

Did any of your poker softwares update? Could have used an extra 10+ MB.

There were no updates that I know of, but I wasn't watching out for that. I will be more vigilant now.

At £30pm it looks like it will be a viable option.

Monitor it for a week - and you'll have a better idea of the average usage.

No, I'm 99.9% sure that it only monitors what comes in to (and goes out of) the actual PC you're using.

Your welcome Tom, all this discussion about the bandwidth it consumes is consuming extra bandwidth tho Smiley
If you find 3Gb a month isnt enough T-Mobile offer the same with an option of 10Gb for £44 a month.

And yes Microsoft have regular monthly update to fix all the issues identified and fixed.
If you cant sleep and have exhausted all other forms of passing the time..

The USB modem is a nice little device, easy to set up and fast download speeds. That contract is OK, but you might be able to get better. Do you know if it's a 12 month or 18 month contract you would be stuck with too?

I have just had a look on ebay and the USB modem can be had from one sellet for £91 (he has 4 available) from other sellers it is going at £150+! So if it's just for occaisional use I'd buy one of those and use it pay as you go (it will be locked to vodafone). And if there was a month where you are going to use it a lot, you can set up a contract with them, then cancel for next month as you didn't take a handset (in this case modem) from them.

Depends on how much you are going to use it. And I'll take a look at the contacts on offer, just I expect these modems to sell fast, they are underpriced IMO. But also, you can get 3G cards for £20ish that work nicely too.
